Notes and Trivia

1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) 9)

1)
Andi Benton's codename, “Mania,” is a reference to the Maniae, the Furies of Greek mythology who pursued and punished wrongdoers, reflecting Andi's own vengeful motivations.
2)
The concept of a symbiote being tainted by demonic magic was a significant departure from their established science-fiction origins as the Klyntar alien race. Cullen Bunn's Venom run intentionally blended these genres.
3)
Declan Shalvey's design for Mania gave Andi a smaller, more agile frame than the bulky Venom, emphasizing speed over raw power. The design also incorporated a stylized skull symbol that subtly evoked the Punisher, another famous Marvel anti-hero.
4)
The Scream symbiote, which Andi later bonded with, was originally one of five symbiotes artificially spawned from the Venom symbiote by the Life Foundation. Its original host was a woman named Donna Diego.
5)
Andi's transformation into Silence makes her part of a very exclusive club of “Anti-Venom” symbiotes, the first and most famous being the one created when Eddie Brock's white blood cells, infused with energy from Mister Negative, merged with remnants of the Venom symbiote in his bloodstream.
6)
Source material for Andi Benton's origin and time as Mania can be found in Venom (2011-2013) issues #31-42.
7)
Her return and transformation into Scream is detailed in the Absolute Carnage: Scream (2019) tie-in miniseries.
8)
Her death and rebirth as Silence occur in King in Black: Scream (2021) #1, and her subsequent journey is chronicled in the Extreme Carnage (2021) event.
9)
Many fans have noted the thematic parallels between Andi Benton and X-23 (Laura Kinney). Both are young women who were unwillingly turned into living weapons, defined by immense trauma, and mentored by an older, established male hero (Flash Thompson and Wolverine, respectively), and both struggle to forge their own identity beyond their violent origins.
