Storm

Part 1: The Dossier: An At-a-Glance Summary

1)
Storm was one of the first major Black female superheroes in comic book history, and her creation is considered a milestone for diversity and representation in the medium.
2)
The “punk” look Storm adopted in Uncanny X-Men #173 (1983) was a radical departure and initially controversial among fans. Artist Paul Smith based the mohawk on his colleague, singer and frontwoman of the Plasmatics, Wendy O. Williams. Editor Louise Simonson had to fight to keep the look, which has since become an iconic part of Storm's history.
3)
Writer Chris Claremont, who wrote Storm for over 16 years, was famously against the annulment of her marriage to Black Panther, viewing it as a decision that undermined years of character development for both heroes.
4)
In the DC/Marvel crossover series Amalgam Comics, Storm was merged with DC Comics' Wonder Woman to create the character Amazon, an Ororo of Themyscira who possessed both weather powers and Amazonian strength.
