Notes and Trivia

1) 2) 3) 4) 5)

1)
The first appearance of Vibranium in Daredevil #13 was the Antarctic “Anti-Metal” variety. The more famous Wakandan variety debuted later in Fantastic Four #53.
2)
In the comics, the value of Vibranium is astronomically high, once priced at $10,000 per gram. This would make the Great Mound, estimated to contain 10,000 tons of the ore, the single most valuable object on Earth by an unimaginable margin.
3)
The MCU simplifies Vibranium's origins, combining the properties of the Wakandan isotope and the near-indestructibility of Proto-Adamantium into a single substance. This is why Captain America's shield in the films is consistently referred to as being made of Vibranium, whereas in the comics it is a unique Vibranium-based alloy.
4)
The mutagenic radiation from the Great Mound is the in-universe scientific explanation for the mystical powers granted by the Heart-Shaped Herb, linking Wakanda's science and spirituality.
5)
While nearly indestructible, Vibranium can be damaged or destroyed under specific circumstances. In the comics, the molecular bonds of Anti-Metal can dissolve it, and powerful cosmic beings or reality-warpers can break it. In the MCU, Thanos was able to shatter Captain America's shield with his uru-metal blade, likely due to the combination of the blade's own magical properties and the immense cosmic power Thanos wielded.
